What’s on the log
One log per truck. Each row is one service event, so the whole page reads as the truck’s running history — the same way most shops keep it on paper today.
- Header — truck number, make/model, VIN, plant.
- Service rows — date, odometer at service, service type, work performed, parts used, labor + parts cost, performed by, and next service due (date or mileage).
- Service-type legend — a short shared vocabulary (oil/lube, tires, brakes, drum/mixer, hydraulics, inspection, repair, other) printed on the page so entries stay consistent across drivers and mechanics.
PDF vs. Excel
The PDF is landscape and holds 18 rows per page — designed for the classic clipboard-in-the-shop use. Start a new sheet when the first fills up; keep them in a truck folder.
The Excel version has 25 rows, a service-type dropdown for column consistency, a frozen header (so it stays visible when you scroll), and automatic totals for cost and a running entry count. One sheet per truck within the same workbook — copy the tab, rename it, and you’ve got a new truck’s log ready.
